The “tide of resignations” among South Korean physicians commenced in late February and appears to evince no signs of abating. The rationale for this strike appears somewhat perplexing: the South Korean government’s proclamation to augment medical school admissions to address the dearth of physicians in South Korea. Since 2006, South Korea’s medical enrollment quota has remained stagnant at 3,058 students for nineteen years.
