    From Geng Renqiu to Izuyama Akiko – A Journey of Identity

    On February 19, 1992, in order to study at Yokohama National University for three years, I flew from Beijing to Narita Airport in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Unexpectedly, after only seven years, I actually chose to become a naturalized Japanese citizen. On December 17, 1999, I became a Japanese citizen with a new name: Izuyama Akiko. My original name was Geng Renqiu, so “Qiuzi” is nothing more than using a word from my original name, but it is a long story about “Izu Mountain”.
