The Internal Dimension of Existence: How to Find Purpose and Fulfillment in Life

Within and Without the Path of Existence

The pathway of existence is bifurcated into two dimensions: internal and external. The external facet encompasses an individual’s tangible encounters, which can be succinctly summarized as a curriculum vitae, delineating past vocations, status, accolades, and the like. The internal facet, however, delves into the metaphysical odyssey of a person. It encompasses the perception of life, emotive experiences, and the pursuit of ideals, all of which elude documentation within a resume.

In my viewpoint, it is the internal dimension that transcends the external and assumes paramount importance within one’s life journey. Moreover, I firmly assert that the external aspects are often dictated by destiny, temporal circumstances, milieu, and opportunities, leaving little room for personal agency. Hence, having exerted my utmost efforts, I deem it preferable to surrender to the course of nature and wholeheartedly focus on the aspects within my control—the internal facets.

Modesty and Dignity

I am characterized by humility—when in the presence of ordinary individuals—owing to the fact that I too am an ordinary person. Conversely, I embrace a sense of pride when confronted with those ignoble souls, for they are unequivocally inferior to the common populace in terms of human virtue, and they rightly deserve the disdain of ordinary people, a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. The existence of such contemptible individuals in the world negates the universal applicability of egalitarian principles to them.

Acceptance of Natural Providence

Certain facets of existence lie beyond our individual dominion, such as fortune, opportunity, public opinion, and reputation. In such instances, it is prudent to disregard these external factors and allow nature to take its course. Conversely, there exist realms within our sphere of influence, such as personal interests, aspirations, and the art of living, where we can ardently dedicate ourselves. In these domains, we should strive tirelessly, leaving the outcomes to the whims of fate.

Transcending Earthly Convictions

Tolstoy eloquently stated, “The privileged few necessitate a deity, for they possess everything except God, while the majority also require a deity, as they possess nothing but God.” Here, the “few” and the “majority” allude to the affluent and the destitute, respectively. This sentiment implies that God represents the ultimate luxury for the affluent and the sole solace for the destitute, thereby satirizing secular beliefs.

Those who harbor true faith transcend the dichotomy of the privileged few and the destitute majority, as well as the distinction between affluence and poverty. For them, the absence of God renders existence hollow, and the presence of God renders insignificance inconsequential. Naturally, the term “God” here is employed in a broad sense, encompassing the spiritual essence of life.

Frailties and Deficiencies

Every individual possesses weaknesses, as it is intrinsic to human nature. Indeed, those who perceive themselves as impervious to weaknesses are likely superficial in their self-awareness. Moreover, those who are universally perceived as devoid of flaws often harbor an inclination toward hypocrisy. Imperfections are an integral facet of life, and it is through acknowledging these shortcomings and embracing them with tolerance and acceptance that one can attain genuine happiness.

Confronting Injustice

When an individual perpetrates an act of injustice against you, and you subsequently endure its repercussions, it is entirely comprehensible. However, I implore you to pause and reflect. In this world, there exist unjust individuals whom you cannot change, and it is irrational to suffer due to the character of others that lies beyond your control. Consider further that unjust acts are inherently perpetrated by unjust individuals, and it is mere happenstance that you were the target. By adopting this perspective, you can transcend personal grievances, utilizing your experiences as a means to comprehend humanity and society. When combating injustice, you will exhibit greater openness and integrity.

Strengths and Weaknesses

The strengths and weaknesses of each individual are two sides of the same coin, contingent upon which aspect is emphasized. In essence, every individual possesses unlimited potential, devoid of any inherent brevity or longevity. The manifestation of brevity or longevity is contingent upon one’s application of said potential. Skillful employment results in strengths, whereas poor utilization begets weaknesses.

The same principle applies to one’s character; its inherent value is independent of moral judgment. Rather, its worth is determined by how effectively it is wielded. Consequently, among individuals of various character types, some achieve great feats, while others attain naught.

Fateful Encounters

Within the vast sea of humanity, certain individuals cross your path while others do not, thereby shaping your destiny in this world. Your experiences of love and hatred, joy and sorrow, success and setbacks are all a consequence of these encounters.

However, bear in mind that you are not a passive participant in these encounters; you can always adopt a certain disposition. These encounters contribute to your external experiences, while your attitude towardthem determines the internal impact they have on you. By approaching these encounters with an open mind, empathy, and an understanding that everyone is fighting their own battles, you can navigate the path of existence with grace and wisdom.

The internal dimension of existence holds significant importance in shaping our perception of life, our pursuit of ideals, and our emotional experiences. While external factors may influence certain aspects of our lives, it is our internal disposition, acceptance of natural providence, transcendence of earthly convictions, acknowledgment of frailties and deficiencies, and ability to confront injustice that truly define our journey. By recognizing our strengths and weaknesses, embracing fateful encounters, and approaching life with humility and dignity, we can navigate the path of existence with purpose and fulfillment.
