The level of cognition will have an important impact on a person’s life and work. The lower the cognitive level, the more stubborn it tends to be. On the contrary, those with a high cognitive level tend to be gentle and humble, and can treat others with a tolerant heart.
I once saw a joke where A asked B: “Do you have “A Brief History of Time”?”
B replied: “Crazy, I won’t pick up shit even if I have time?”
Of course this is just a joke.
When A asked B, A never thought that B would answer: Go pick up shit?
What does this mean?
It shows that the two people are not on the same cognitive channel at all.
It is difficult for two people with different cognitive levels to communicate.
People with lower cognition have more cognitive blind spots
Two years ago, a friend of mine wanted to start a business, and the project was a laundry.
Before starting his business, he has inspected several high-end residential areas in the provincial capital, and has done enough homework in terms of crowds, customer flow, store locations, labor, equipment, consumption habits, early publicity, investment costs, etc.
When he mentioned this matter to me, he was very organized and took all the details into account. I think this matter can be done.
So, he went home and discussed with his father about opening a laundry.
His father was a farmer, and he never spent a penny on laundry since he was a child.
When his father heard that he was going to open a laundry shop, he jumped up from the bench and shouted:
“You go to open a laundry shop, look at our villagers, and look at me again, when did you spend a penny on laundry? You go to open a shop, and you lose so much that you don’t even have to wear your pants.”
His father firmly opposed to opening a laundry shop. The reason was that he had a washing machine at home. Who would be crazy to spend money on laundry?
Let’s think about it from his father’s point of view. Is what his father said right?
right. But where is the problem?
The problem is that his father’s cognition is limited to daily life in the countryside, and he doesn’t understand the living conditions in big cities at all. For his father, this situation is called “cognitive blind spot”.
If the laundry is opened in the countryside, it is definitely not feasible, the flow of people is too small and too scattered, and every household does their own laundry, who will spend money on laundry?
But this project is in the provincial capital.
So this father used his very limited cognition to stubbornly draw conclusions to the unknown environment.
People with lower cognition have more cognitive blind spots.
There is a saying: well frogs cannot speak of the sea, and summer insects cannot speak of ice.
Don’t talk about the sea with the frog at the bottom of the well, because its cognition is only as big as the bottom of the well, and the sea is a cognitive blind spot for it.
Don’t talk about ice and snow with Xia Chong, because Xia Chong has never experienced ice and snow, and ice and snow are cognitive blind spots for it.
People with low cognition have more cognitive blind spots, and the easier it is to stick to their inherent cognition.
The lower the cognition, the more rigid the thinking
There is a plot in “Mountain and Sea Love”, selling mushrooms.
Professor Ling led the villagers to grow rich by growing mushrooms, but as more and more farmers grow mushrooms, the price of mushrooms has been lowered and lowered by mushroom dealers.
From 3 yuan and 5 a catty at the beginning, it fell to less than 1 yuan in the end.
At this time, the villagers thought: Either throw away the mushrooms; or let the mushroom dealers who came to the village to collect mushrooms buy them at a low price. There is no second thought.
But what does Professor Ling think?
1. Build a freezer and refrigerate fresh mushrooms.
2. Lead the team members to Shanghai, Xi’an, Beijing, Hangzhou and other big cities to open up sales.
Professor Ling’s thoughts: Living people can be suffocated by urine, so I don’t believe in that evil.
In fact, it is at this time that we can best see the difference in thinking that depends on the level of cognition.
The thinking of the villagers is rigid, and they stubbornly believe that the mushroom dealers will collect mushrooms. If the mushroom dealers lower the price, they will not collect mushrooms, and the matter will be over.
But Professor Ling has come up with many feasible solutions.
This is the gap. The lower the cognition, the more rigid and monotonous the thinking, commonly known as: single-minded, dead-brained, and love to dig into dead ends.
Our cognition is an invisible ruler, which measures the result of your judgment on the outside world.
Ma Weidu once talked about reading like this: You must read miscellaneous books when reading, otherwise the nutrition will be unbalanced.
The “unbalanced nutrition” here refers to too single and rigid cognition, and rigid cognition directly leads to rigid and single thinking mode.
The lower the cognition, the more stubborn a person is, not because of his stubborn personality, but because of his rigid thinking mode.
People with too low cognition, the unknown boundary is too narrow
A few days ago, an author friend sent me a WeChat message:
“Recently, I have knowledge anxiety. Before I didn’t have the habit of reading, I was very confident every day and felt that I knew everything, which is amazing.
However, since I listened to your words and read the book list you gave me, the more I read it, the more I felt ignorant and short-sighted.
Because the content in the book has subverted my previous cognition, I only now realize that in this world, I still have a lot of university questions that I don’t know! ”
The reason why this friend has this kind of “knowledge anxiety” is that through continuous reading, he has touched his “cognitive boundary”.
We will find an interesting phenomenon:
The more knowledgeable a person is, the more open-minded he is, and the more humbly he accepts other people’s suggestions.
On the contrary, the lower the cognitive level, the more closed-minded and conceited the person.
Xu Zhiyuan once interviewed the late Wu Mengda:
“I saw you wearing glasses, especially like an old Lu Xun.”
Uncle Da replied: “Hey, it’s too far away.”
Xu Zhiyuan then asked: “Really, ask other people around you, they are really similar, have you ever thought about playing the role of writer Lu Xun?”
Uncle Da thought for a while, shook his head and said, “I don’t have the energy to play Lu Xun at the moment, he is a very knowledgeable person.”
Xu Zhiyuan continued to ask Uncle Da: “How did you feel about filming “The Wandering Earth”?”
Unexpectedly, Uncle Da said bluntly: “It’s a blank sheet of paper, I give myself all to the director, and I put myself on the director’s cutting board and let him carve it.”
Uncle Da’s words are very humble. An old actor who has been filming for decades, reveals that his filming is completely blank, and he will leave it to the director to guide.
This very open mind is a state of mind for a well-known old drama player.
But on the other hand, some new actors who have not been famous for a long time always have a lot of inherent opinions.
Why are people with higher cognition more humble?
The French philosopher Descartes once said that the more you learn, the more you discover your ignorance.
Because the richer a person’s knowledge is, the wider the unknown field he is exposed to, the more questions he has, and the more things he needs to learn.
And the narrower a person’s knowledge, the less exposure to unknown areas, this kind of person tends to be conceited and omnipotent.
People with low cognition, they don’t know their ignorance, so they stubbornly think that they know everything.
The famous philosopher Socrates once said:
“I am smarter than others because I know my ignorance. ”
I used to be a very stubborn person, but with the growth of experience and the accumulation of reading, my previous stubborn beliefs have been repeatedly overturned.
As Qingyou, the author of the rich book, said:
“If you have realized your stubbornness, in addition to deliberately reminding yourself to reflect in time, the most effective way is to read and study, communicate with outstanding people, and strive to improve your cognition.”
With more experience, the wider the knowledge, the deeper the thinking, the higher the cognitive level.
At that time, you will no longer be attached to the ego.
