Sudden flash floods, run to the heights quickly

Every summer, the waterside is one of people’s favorite summer resorts, but every year, tragedies caused by improper water play keep happening. In this regard, Liu Gang, the former operation captain of the China International Rescue Team, said that it is best not to go into the water during the flood season. If you want to go out to play, in addition to preparing inflatable life jackets, first aid kits and other items in advance, keep the following precautions in mind.
Do not go to ravines and dammed lakes to play. If you travel during the flood season, you must pay attention to weather forecasts and flash flood warnings in advance to see if there are problems such as heavy rain, thunder and lightning in the local area, and check the topography of the play area. If there are lakes and dammed lakes, try not to go there.
If there are no dangers mentioned above, you should also avoid visiting, camping and camping in areas such as near valleys, lower places on both sides of streams and rivers, intersections of double river mouths, river bends and convex banks, especially downstream. Vulnerable to flash floods. The Longcaogou, where the accident occurred in Pengzhou, Sichuan, belongs to the downstream terrain.
Look out for safety signs in advance. Pay attention to safety signs in advance, such as “No Entry” and other safety warning signs, emergency shelters, safety exits, temporary shelters, emergency escape routes, etc., in case of emergency.
Camping depends on the water level. If you need to camp, you should stay away from valleys and rivers. The “far away” here refers to the vertical height from the river, at least 1.5 meters above the water surface, and pay attention to the moss and water marks on the shore, and stay away from the highest water level. Water has no shape, these can only be used as a reference, in case of heavy rain or abnormal situation, it should be transferred immediately.
Always keep an eye on the water level. When playing by the water, be sure to keep abreast of the water level and current conditions to avoid missing the best time to evacuate. Generally, there are precursors before the arrival of flash floods, such as the increase of floating objects on the water surface, the water flow becomes turbid; the water level rises significantly, and the water flow increases significantly; there is a loud noise from the upstream of the flood, like rumbling thunder.
Run away, don’t hesitate. After discovering the above symptoms or abnormal conditions, don’t hesitate, you must run straight away, run to both sides of the nearest ditch or on the high slope, and do not run down the ravine or downstream. If you are evacuating quickly in the current, you need to keep your body’s center of gravity forward, face the current as much as possible, and keep your legs in front and back to help avoid floating objects downstream in time to avoid being knocked down.
Accidentally trapped, set up a formation. If you are trapped, but the water flow does not exceed your knees, and the water speed is not fast (no more than 0.3 m/s), you must escape as soon as possible; if the water flow is too fast or too high, do not forcefully rush out of the flood or swim to escape, you should try your best to escape. Grab a stationary object such as a nearby tree, a large rock, or a floating object such as a plank or a large piece of foam, and try to relax your body to avoid sinking.
If a group of people is trapped, the trapped people can stand in a column, with women and children in front and able-bodied men in the back; or stand in a herringbone shape, with one person in front and those behind standing 30 degrees behind the first person. . In both formations, everyone should keep the center of gravity forward and hold the waist of the person in front with both hands to prevent them from being washed away by the flood. Then, try to call 110, 119, 120 for help.
Collision wounds should be disinfected in time. If you are accidentally injured, you should immediately wash the wound with clean water and paper towels, clean up the dirt attached to the wound, and disinfect it with alcohol and iodine if conditions permit. If the wound is large and needs to be sutured, you should go to a medical institution for treatment in time.
