Speed ​​up and increase efficiency, solve difficult problems with new browser features

  Not long ago, Google Chrome and Edge browser successively released the latest versions, and some new and very useful functions have been added to these new versions of the browser. As long as office users make good use of these functions, they can solve many thorny problems directly in the browser, instead of using other tools or services as before.
Generate and share QR code directly

  Now using QR codes to pass web links has become the simplest and most effective way to share. However, users usually have to rely on special services to convert web links into QR code information, and now this problem can be easily solved by using the built-in function of Google Chrome.
  First enter “chrome://flags/” in the address bar of Google Chrome and press Enter, search for the keyword “Enable sharing page via QR Code” in the opened Flag page, and select “Enable sharing page via QR Code” after finding it. Enabled” (Figure 1). Restart the browser and open the link of the webpage to be shared, then click the right mouse button on the webpage, and select the “Create QR code for this page” command in the pop-up menu.

  At this time, a QR code icon will appear behind the address bar, and a dialog box will pop up at the same time, and a shared QR code will be generated in the dialog box. Scan it directly through the scan QR code function of the mobile browser, and then you can open the shared link in the mobile phone (Figure 2). Or click the “Download” button in the dialog box to save the QR code image to your local computer and share it with other users in various ways.

Preview web content with tabs

  Many users like to open multiple web links in the browser at once, but this will cause the tabs to be crowded together, so that the user cannot understand the specific content of each tab, so that the user has to resort to the function Extend the plug-in to find the required tab. In the new version of Google Chrome, the functions of tab prompts and tab thumbnails have been added, which can solve the difficulties encountered by users.
  According to the previous method, in the opened Flag page, enter the two keywords “Tab Hover Cards” and “Tab Hover Card Images” respectively. After finding them, select the “Enabled” option in the list and restart the browser . In the future, when users need to view the specific content of a certain tab, they only need to move the mouse to a certain tab and hover over it, and the title and thumbnail information of the corresponding web page will be displayed (Figure 3). This not only avoids the cumbersome installation of function extension plug-ins, but also allows users to view web page information at a glance.

Modify the password information

  Many web browsers, including Google Chrome, have a function to help users automatically fill in passwords. But when the user changes the previous password information, this function will lose its effect. To solve this problem, you need to modify the recorded password, but the previous version has no related functions, but the new version of the browser has added related functions.
  First search for the keyword “Edit passwords in settings” in the opened Flag page, and then select the “Enabled” option in the list that follows, and then restart Google Chrome according to the prompts. Then click the “Customize and Control Google Chrome” button in the upper right corner of the browser, and select the “Settings” command in the pop-up menu.
  Find the “Password” option in “Autofill” in the opened settings window, click it and you can see all the recorded password information. After you find the password information you want to modify in the list, click the “More Actions” button behind it. Select the “modify password” command in the pop-up menu, and a password edit box will pop up (Figure 4). Set the password in the password input box of the edit box, and then click the confirm button to change the original password.

  Tips: Because Microsoft’s new version of Edge browser uses the Chromium kernel, it shares the same root with Google Chrome. Therefore, the previous few Google browser usage skills are also applicable to Edge browser, users only need to activate the relevant parameters to use.
Activation of the secure DNS function

  When accessing a web page with a browser, the first step is to perform domain name resolution operations. However, sometimes the browser will be disturbed to some extent during this operation. This will not only affect the speed of web browsing, but may also jump to a wrong web link. In order to solve this problem, the new version of Edge browser has added a secure DNS function, so that DNS requests can be encrypted and transmitted.
  The user first clicks the “Control and Others” button in the upper right corner, and selects the “Settings” command in the pop-up menu. Then in the settings page that opens, click the “Privacy, Search, and Service” option in the list on the left. In the “Security” in the right window, you can see an option called “Use a secure DNS to specify how to find the network address of a website”. Activate this option and select “Please select a service provider” below, and then click the input box behind this option. In the list, you can see the four secure DNS service options that come with the browser, and you can choose a DNS service that you are satisfied with.
  Since these four service providers are all foreign, there may be some slowness in the resolution speed. Users can customize the DNS encryption service according to their own needs. For example, the author here sets it as the encrypted DNS address of Alibaba. https://dns.alidns.com/dns-query (Figure 5). In the future, when the user opens the web page through the Edge browser, the browser will abandon the DNS server address set by the system, and use the encrypted DNS server set by the user for domain name resolution, thus effectively protecting the security of DNS transmission.

Customize the new tab page background

  The Microsoft Edge browser allows users to set the background of the new tab page, but in the previous version, it can only be set to a blank page or use the Bing search daily picture to set it. Users are not allowed to customize settings, but this feature has been improved in the new version of the Edge browser.
  If the user wants to customize the background of the new tab, click the “New Tab” button first, and then click the gear button in the opened new tab page. Then select the “Custom” command in the pop-up menu, and then select the “Local Image” option. After clicking the “Upload” button, a dialog box will open, and you can select the background picture you need from the hard disk of your computer (Figure 6). I need to remind everyone that this function only supports pictures in jpg format and png format. If not in these two formats, you need to convert them before you can complete the custom operation.

  Tips: Firefox also comes with similar functions. Users can click the “Settings” button in “Network Settings” in the options window. Then activate the “Enable HTTPS-based DNS” option in the pop-up dialog box, and then set the required DNS server address.
