The universe is so big, I want to see
”I want to take you to romantic Turkey, and then to Tokyo and Paris together. In fact, I especially like Miami, and Los Angeles with black people …” With the invention and use of many vehicles such as cars, planes, and motor cars, the world has become A “global village”. However, humans have not stopped moving forward. Whether it is out of curiosity or dreams, we all feel that the universe is so big, can we go and see it? Dreams are always needed, what if they are realized?
On November 27, 2018, NASA’s “Insight” unmanned probe successfully landed on Mars, performing the first human mission to explore the mystery of Mars’ “inner heart”. As early as May 5, 2018, the “Insight” was lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in central California, the United States. After nearly seven months of voyage, the voyage was about 480 million kilometers. Part of the task is to gather information for one day when humans land on Mars.
Don’t look at the “Insight” probe after landing on Mars successfully, the scenery is infinite, in fact, its initial launch was not smooth sailing. The original plan “Insight” should be launched in March 2016, but due to the sealing problem of the scientific research equipment carried, the launch was delayed to 2018, and the value of “Insight” soared from 675 million US dollars to 993 million US dollars.
This delay has turned into more space enthusiasts. Because the National Aeronautics and Space Administration initiated the “collection of names on Mars” campaign, more than 800,000 people signed up at the time. During the delay in launching, NASA re-listed the name, and the number of fans traveling to Mars increased to 2.4 million, including 260,000 space fans from China. Their names are all stored on a small chip, which was brought to Mars by the “Insight”. These lucky people also realized the dream of space travel in this free way. At the same time, this special group of Mars passengers will also receive an exclusive boarding pass provided by NASA.
The Mars rover “Insight” is about 5.5 meters long, the size is equivalent to a car, the mass is 350 kilograms, and there are two circular solar panels that can expand like a paper fan to provide power. “Insight” mainly undertakes two major scientific tasks. First, it determines the current level of Martian geological tectonic activity by detecting the scale, frequency, and geographic distribution of fire activity inside Mars, and the frequency of meteorites hitting the Martian surface; second, Investigate the formation and evolution of terrestrial planets by investigating the internal structure and activity of Mars.
In response to these two major tasks, NASA researchers have developed six investigation projects, which are to determine the size, composition and physical state of the Martian core, determine the thickness and structure of the Martian crust, and determine the composition and structure of the Martian mantle. To determine the thermal state inside Mars, measure the amplitude, velocity, and geographic distribution of fire activity inside Mars, and measure the impact rate of meteorite on the surface of Mars.
In order to complete these detection tasks, “Insight” is equipped with three main detection tools: seismograph equipment, geothermal flow detector and “rotation and internal structure test” detection equipment. In addition, the “Insight” is also equipped with two cameras, which can measure the pressure, temperature and wind speed of Mars, etc., and are used to correct the noise of the seismograph data. Of course, these data are also useful for studying the weather on Mars.
Bruce Bennett, the main person in charge of the “Insight” project, once said: “For 35 years, there has been a” drum “coming from the ground of Mars. We need to study the interior of Mars.” This shows that the previous Mars probe has been detected. An abnormal sound from Mars was detected. This sound is like a drum beat. Scientists believe that it may come from the Mars earthquake, so the Seismometer was installed on the “Insight” to detect the seismic waves inside Mars and judge the Mars earthquake from it. Is it due to internal lava activity, plate tectonics, or asteroid impact on Mars. At the same time, scientists can also judge the data of the internal structure and composition of Mars through the propagation of seismic waves, analyze whether Mars is divided into the crust, mantle, and core like the earth, and understand the thickness of each layer, and the boundaries of each layer. Where to wait, so “Insight” is not only to explore the source of the “drums” underground on Mars, but also tell us the specific structure of Mars.
The heat flow detector installed on the “Insight” mainly measures the temperature and gradient of a certain depth on the surface of Mars. It uses a unique well-drilling structure design to dig down continuously for several months, and finally penetrates to about 5 meters below the surface of Mars. Combining the detected calorific value with seismic wave data, scientists can speculate on the release of heat inside Mars, the material distribution and internal structure of Mars at a certain depth, and the history of thermal evolution inside Mars. The “rotation and internal structure test” detection equipment will use the probe’s communication system to accurately measure the rotation of Mars and to explore the internal structure and composition of Mars.
Obviously, the “Insight” Mars rover will help us understand the size, composition and physical state of Mars core, geological structure, and Mars internal temperature, seismic activity, etc., and it does not rule out the combination of previously detected measurement data to reveal the Martian magnetic field The possibility of disappearing mystery.
The universe is so big, why do humans have a soft spot for Mars? Because the environment of Mars is the closest to Earth. Mars has a thin atmosphere, the pressure is 1% of the earth, the local maximum temperature can even reach 35 ℃, of course, the average temperature is still relatively low, only -63 ℃. Therefore, if interstellar immigration is carried out in the future, Mars will definitely be the first choice. Tech maniac Musk ’s dream is to send humans to Mars in the foreseeable future and establish a colony there. Musk said it is important to ensure that humans can reach Mars and survive the next world war. “Settling on Mars can shorten the length of the dark age.” However, Musk also admitted that he expects to achieve his goal within seven years is a little idealized: “I am often told that from the past records, my schedule is too Optimistic. ”
In fact, the universe is so big, it is not impossible for us to take a look!
