In fact, broccoli does contain these sulfur-containing substances, but they are all derived from glucosinolates. Thioglucosides, also called glucosinolates, or glucosinolates for short, are a class of secondary metabolites of thioglycosides synthesized from amino acids and are commonly found in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables.

In some animal and in vitro cell experiments, these sulfur-containing substances have been found to inhibit the growth of bacteria and cancer cells. Some people may say that when eating broccoli, they will always eat some beneficial substances! In fact, population diet surveys show that broccoli does not have any special health effects.
