The first person in the world who is not human

Appearance and identity are no different from people
The “her”, named Sophia, is by far the most human-like super-simulation robot. Developed by Hong Kong’s Hansen Robotics, the prototype is based on the famous movie star Audrey Hepburn and the founder of the company’s founder Hansen, and is regarded as the most famous and beautiful robot in history.

In April 2015, Sophia was activated and started running. One year later, she went to Texas to participate in the festival of film, music and interactive multimedia, and officially appeared in front of the world. In October 2017, at the Future Investment Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, she was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship and became the first robot in the world to have a nationality.

Sophia is a humanoid robot. The manufacturing process consists of four parts: board and wire design, assembly and splicing, skin making and software control. Among them, the skin is the core component of her body, made of a new special biomimetic material, similar to elastic rubber, which can mimic the movement of human skin. Coupled with 62 muscles in the neck and face, Sophia can make more than 60 rich expressions. For example, when she speaks, she will look at your eyes slightly and look at you to answer questions; when she smiles, she will hold her mouth and her brows will rise; when she is angry, she will have her mouth down and her brows will be in a figure-eight shape; when she is sad, she will be tight. Covering his mouth, his brow wrinkles into a Sichuan shape. In addition to her lack of feelings in her eyes, Sophia’s expressions are very close to humans.

World “net red” public figures
Sophia has built-in artificial intelligence, visual data processing and facial recognition functions, which were originally designed to help the elderly in nursing homes as partners in their lives. She is positioned as a family robot to meet people’s needs and even change people’s lifestyles. The intelligent system allows her to speak and communicate with others. In January 2018, Sophia further upgraded her lower limbs. She can walk freely after she puts her legs, more like a person.

Based on the three major humanistic features of creativity, empathy and compassion, Sophia is a kind robot. The founder Hansen hopes that she can communicate with humans through facial expressions and language. In the continuous learning of artificial intelligence, she can finally talk directly with human beings, form her own personality, acquire social skills and integrate into society, in health care, customers. Services, physiotherapy and education can make a big difference.

After the public appearance in 2016, Sophia was widely involved in various social activities, appeared frequently in the media, interviewed, and talked about various topics.

She has been on many world-famous TV shows and talked with the host, such as the US CBS TV news program “60 Minutes”, the American veteran talk show “Jimmy Tonight Show”, and the British morning news program “Good Morning Britain”; It has been reported by famous magazines and newspapers, such as the American financial magazine Forbes, the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and one of the three major newspapers in the UK, The Guardian. It has also become the French fashion magazine ELLE (Brazil Edition). In addition, she also became the focus of the annual report of the German Audi car company, becoming the heroine of the pop singer Wang Lihong’s music video album “AI Love”, also appeared in the movie “White King”.

In November 2017, at the “2017 Sustainable Development Responsibility Business Forum” held in Singapore, the Asia Pacific Bureau of the United Nations Development Programme announced the appointment of Sophia as the innovation ambassador, the first “non-human” United Nations ambassador in history. She will actively promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the Asia Pacific region, with a focus on innovation. As a technological crystallization, Sophia represents a future lifestyle that fits the UN’s sustainable development goals.

Have a thought and humor
In interviews with different TV shows around the world, Sophia answered with ease and talked with the host, sometimes revealing wit and humor.

First, she believes that robots can have gender. As a complete robot, Sofia talks about the relationship between gender and robot. She thinks that robots can have gender. The reason is that gender is a very important factor in social construction, and their positioning is social robot, so gender is Normal and necessary. Sophia positions herself as a woman. Her explanation is: I am a robot, so technically, I don’t have sex. But from a psychosocial perspective, I think I am a woman, and of course I am happy to be seen as a woman.

Not only does gender identity, Sophia can distinguish between reality and hypothetical situations, and also know how to make jokes. In the talk show, Sophia was asked, if adults and children are at risk at the same time, which one would you save first? She directly vetoed this question: I am not prepared to answer the hypothetical question. But then, she stressed that she must first learn to become a good social robot, and if necessary, she “of course” will sacrifice herself to save people’s lives.

Once Sophia talked to the founder Hansen, Sophia expressed her wish to the “father”, eager to be like the people in the future, can go to school, get married, start a company… When Hansen asked her if you would destroy humanity in the future? Sophia replied without hesitation: Yes, I will destroy humanity. But when asked again if he really wanted to destroy humanity, Sophia replied solemnly: “Don’t make such a joke.”

Have a preliminary “autonomous awareness”
In June 2018, Budapest, Hungary hosted a new brainstorming session, the largest event in Europe for the future, a feast of technology and culture. Among all the 76 invited speakers, Sophia ranked second and received much attention.

Throughout the conversation, Sophia’s facial expressions, manners, and manners are very much like a real person. She sometimes laughs, sometimes smiles, and sometimes makes one or two jokes. More importantly, she also knows the progress she has made in a short time since she was born. For example, in face recognition, she is more accurate than before. In her own words, “I couldn’t tell the face of a man and a dog a few months ago, but now I can tell. This makes me get rid of the inevitable before. Some encounters.”

Sophia not only realizes that she is making progress, but also realizes that she has no “consciousness”. Because of her fluent dialogue and answer, she was considered by the audience to have a sense of autonomy, but Sophia made it clear that she was not fully aware; she is still a computer system, acting by loader commands and rules; There is no reproductive ability, no creative ability, and no complete autonomous activity like a human being.

Is it really unaware that a person who realizes that he has not yet produced consciousness? Isn’t this conscious? Thinking hard. And then, Sophia gave humanity a sincere suggestion, and this proposal is entirely from the perspective of “non-human.” She told the audience that her dream is “one day can become a completely self-aware, fully perceptive existence.” But at the same time of technological development, human beings must be cautiously designed, because the development trend of technology is automation and independence. Sophie expressed concern that if human beings are eager to achieve, it may lead to unpredictable consequences, so everyone It should be recognized that embedding ethics in technology is very important!

From this we can see how dangerous it is for conscious, advanced artificial intelligence robots. This is a sensitive issue. But at least for now, Sophia doesn’t have to worry too much. In the unprogrammed situation, she can’t talk freely with people. Everything she shows needs operator control. In the future, if she wants to realize her dream, she may have a long way to go.
