I saw a lot of photos of the “mirror of the sky” on TV, magazines and on the Internet. I believe that few people can not move. The blue sky and white clouds are completely reflected on the earth. The symmetrical reflections, such as the carefully constructed oil paintings, are not a trace. Flaws, when people walk into this picture, you can present a perfect reflection without retouching. You don’t need a beauty camera like a prince or a fairy, as if it were a fairy tale world. This “world’s largest natural mirror” is located in Uyuni, the small town of Bolivia in South America, and the “mirror” is formed because of a layer of salt on the ground, and the world’s largest salt lake is in Uyuni. The author has made a special trip for this.
“The car is in the clouds”
Uyuni is located in the Andean highlands of southern Bolivia with an average elevation of 3,656 meters. The formation of the mirror of the sky, in addition to the salt flats, there is another essential factor, that is, water, and the water on the surface of the salt lake comes from rain. The most ideal “mirror surface” is that the salt flat covers about 5 cm of water. During the period from April to November, the rainfall is very low. The salt lake may be dry and cannot form a beautiful reflection. In December and January, due to the heavy rainfall, the water surface of the salt lake may be too high for the car to enter. So the author deliberately chose to come to Uyuni at the end of February. Of course, if you can see the ideal mirror of the sky, you have to look at your personal luck.
Forming a perfect mirror of the sky, Uyuni has a natural advantage, that is, the entire salt marsh area is very flat, and the ground drop of tens of thousands of square kilometers is less than 1 meter. After the rain, the rainwater layer attached to the surface transforms the salt marsh into the world’s largest and smoothest mirror. It is said that when Armstrong was on the moon, he saw this salt lake from space and thought it was a vast glaciers, because this huge salt lake did not have a trace of white, pure white snow.
Arriving in Uyuni is not easy, you can buy expensive machines from La Paz, the capital of Bolivia.
Ticket, or choose to take a 10-hour overnight bus. After arriving at this “City of Salt”, the author joined the local “water-seeking group”, because not all of the large salt fields have a water level that just forms a mirror. A one-hour drive from the town of Uyuni to the border of Yantian, the jeep drives into the salt marsh and enters a white world. Slowly moving forward on the white earth, there is already a feeling of “the car is in the clouds.” We occasionally sighed in the car and picked up the phone to start shooting, but the local drivers felt that it was not good enough. After looking for half an hour, The car finally stopped in a beautiful sky reflection (pictured).
We excitedly put on rain boots, stepped on the “big mirror”, carefully lifted our feet, for fear of breaking the mirror. The blue sky of the plateau stretches to the green hills in the distance, and meets the boundless white salt in the sky, and walks in it. It is even impossible to tell which is the real sky, which is the illusory reflection, just like walking into the wonderland. . There is no trace of water on the surface, and the white clouds seem to stop and stop to appreciate themselves in the mirror.
In appearance, we take pictures and enjoy the purity and tranquility of nature. The hardships of this journey have suddenly vanished.
The formation of the largest salt lake in the world
About how the Uyuni Salt Lake was formed, there is a beautiful old story. It is said that a long time ago, the giant tribe lived under the hills of Uyuni. The goddess Tunupa came here and married the giant Kuscu for a year. Her husband ran away with another giant, Kusina. The sad Tunupa began to cry when breastfeeding her son. Her tears mixed with milk and formed a salt lake. Many locals believe that Tunupa is an important god in their faith and believes that this town should be named Tunupa instead of Uyuni.
Archaeologists believe that the Uyuni salt marsh can be traced back to about 40,000 years ago, and its area is still a huge lake called “Mingqin Lake”, which then gradually dried up to form two large lagoons – Pubo Lake and Ulu Ulu, as well as two large salt marshes – the Uyuni salt marshes and the Koipasa salt marshes. The surface of the Uyuni salt marsh is covered with a strong salt shell, which is a mixture of lake mud and salt, with a thickness ranging from tens of centimeters to several meters.
Except for the world
The well-known tourist destination, the salt lake of Uyuni, also has great use value; not only the salt shell contains a lot of salt, but the surface water contains a lot of sodium, potassium, lithium and magnesium, and the Uyuni salt marsh is rich. Lithium, according to the US Institute of Geography and Exploration, its reserves of lithium minerals account for 50% to 70% of the world’s proven reserves.
Special salt city
Of course, nature’s main gift to Uyuni is salt. According to statistics, the total reserves of salt lakes are about 65 billion tons, enough for people all over the world to eat for thousands of years. Local residents are prevalent in salt mining. They often build small salt domes of about 1 meter to expose them to dryness, and then cut them into 10 cm to 1 m cubes of coarse salt. In addition to being sent to the nearby salt processing plant, there are also people. Used as building materials in the salt field. In the salt lake, there is the only hotel in the world that uses salt. In addition to the roof and windows and doors, the walls and interiors of the salt hotel, including the beds, tables, stools and other main furniture in the room are made of salt. Even the ground floor is the original salt layer. Maybe a lot of people will have the same thoughts as the author. If it rains, will the salt hotel be changed? The local guide explained that the salt bricks are specially made. During the rainy season, the salt lake is filled with rain and the salt hotel is also above a pond. In the dry season, the rain evaporated, leaving only a layer of mineral hard shells based on salt. So the locals processed this hard salt shell into a “salt brick”. This special salt brick is not only waterproof, but even stronger after being exposed to water. Although the temperature difference between day and night is very large, the salt wall can be insulated during the day, while the heat absorbed during the day is kept at night, making the temperature in the room suitable.
Despite the dry climate, the sun during the day and the cold temperatures at night, the Uyuni Salt Lake still maintains its life. In addition to the beautiful natural scenery of the sky mirror, it is also a paradise for many rare animals and plants, including pink fire. Birds and rare hummingbirds. Miraculously, there is a small island called Fish Island in the middle of the salt marsh. It attracts tourists not because there are fish on the island, but because there are pieces of cactus growing from 1 meter to a dozen meters high. Many are already The “old antiques” of the millennium.
The author and the members stayed in the salt lake from the afternoon until the evening, experiencing the mirror of the different sky under the sunset and the stars. As the sun sinks a little, the afterglow of the setting sun shines on the mirror of the sky, and the whole world is dyed orange. I can’t help but admire, the sky is so vast, and I am so small.
