The Samsung system breaks the lessons of sand

Speaking of the mobile operating system, everyone is most familiar with Apple’s IOS system and Android system. In fact, in addition to the two, there are some failures from the famous, such as Microsoft’s WindowsPhone and Samsung’s Ti⁃zen system.

A few years ago, Samsung did not encounter Note7 self-igniting this Waterloo, still the undisputed overlord of the Android Android camp, not only dominated the mobile phone share, but also equalized the apple on the flagship machine, and realized most of the parts on the hardware. Design and manufacture. In this case, Samsung is obviously not satisfied with relying on Android, and intends to start a new stove, thus developing the Tizen operating system.

However, to this day, Tizen has been defeated by Android and IOS on smartphones, and Samsung has used Tizen directly on its own smart TV.

Why does Tizen smash the sand, the author believes that there are mainly the following reasons:

One is the difficulty of the rising star to break the monopoly technology system. The IT industry has a feature that hardware and software can be bound to each other to form a monopoly. On smartphones, ARM and Android, as well as ARM and IOS form a monopoly alliance, which makes latecomers often in a very disadvantageous position in the market competition, even The wealthy giants such as Microsoft and Intel are also in the process of promoting Windows Phone and X86 CPU smartphones.

Second, it failed to form its own software ecosystem. Is a variety of application software, such as instant messaging software, stock software, travel software, map software, video software, browsers, ordering software, online shopping software and other APP, so that the operating system has the ability to solve problems, so the software ecosystem is the operating system The vitality lies. The reason why Apple’s IOS can live very moist, is rooted in its own closed ecology, enough to meet the various needs of users, and to lock a group of loyal users. Because foreign users have higher dependence on Google Play, Youtube, Gmail, etc., and Tizen has a competitive relationship with Android, this makes Google inevitably have a certain vigilance and hostility towards Tizen, lacking the initiative to be compatible with Tizen. . Once foreign consumers can’t use Google software, just like Chinese users can’t use QQ and WeChat on their mobile phones, they will “disappoint” a large number of potential users, and then fall into a vicious circle. The ecological difference leads to fewer users, and fewer users lead to software vendors. Lack of motivation to actively adapt software, which leads to the ecology has not been able to get up.

Third, there are too many competitors, too few friends, and it is difficult to support. When Samsung promoted Tizen, it also tried to draw a group of allies. However, as a competitor, other manufacturers obviously will not invest much real money in promoting Tizen, and more is to look at the limelight. By the same token, due to the competition with Samsung, OPPO, VIVO, Xiaomi and other mobile phone manufacturers will not take the initiative to adopt Tizen. In the cooperation with Samsung, Intel has also been half-hearted. In cooperation with the development of Tizen, it has invested heavily in binary translation, making its X86 processor compatible with Android, and highly subsidizing Lenovo, ASUS and other terminal manufacturers to promote X86 CPU smartphones and tablets. The computer, the result lost to the monopoly alliance of ARM+Android in the market competition.

Fourth, Samsung lacks courage and determination. In order to break the oligopoly, we must go forward with the courage to break the boat. However, Samsung is not determined to be decisive in this regard. Due to the lack of software in Tizen’s software, Samsung implemented the Android+Ti⁃zen strategy at the beginning of its promotion. Admittedly, in business, this is indeed a relatively safe approach, but in practice, Samsung is equipped with Tizen on its low-end mobile phone and Android on the high-end flagship model, which gives the outside world a signal that Tizen represents cheap. And the low end, which greatly damages Tizen’s brand and image, making it difficult for Samsung to call on consumers to support Tizen. As a result of consumers voting with money, Samsung is becoming less and less optimistic about Tizen, and it is increasingly relying on Android, which further weakens Samsung’s investment in Ti⁃zen, which eventually led Samsung to give up Tizen on smartphones.

In fact, Samsung is not without opportunities. Its revenue once occupied 20% of Korea’s GDP. It can be fully integrated. Samsung employees, as the first customers, continue to improve Tizen through internal circulation. At the same time, Samsung can also use its government relations to distribute the business jets equipped with Tizen to public officials. After having the base and basic discs, it will gradually move to the commercial market.

Of course, the background of Tizen’s sloppiness is that South Korea does not have a huge domestic market. Huawei has also launched its own operating system recently. China’s huge market and government’s macro-control capabilities are not available in South Korea. This is precisely the important weight for China to break the monopoly of mobile operating systems in Western countries.
