Kyrgyzstan Special Forces arrested former president

On the evening of the 7th local time, the Kyrgyz National Security Council special forces attacked the residence of former President Atambayev several times and arrested them, but they were resisted by former presidential supporters. The conflict resulted in the death of one Special Forces soldier and 52 injuries. The news came out on the evening of the 8th that Atambayee surrendered.

According to the Russian “Kommersant” reported on the 8th, the Kyrgyzstan Special Forces went to the Atambayev residence on the outskirts of the capital Bishkek on Wednesday night. The special forces used rubber bullets to attack the former president’s house, but they were all strongly resisted by Atambayev supporters. The former president even shot himself, but said “no harm to people.” The Information Service of the National Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan stated that supporters of Atambayev robbed 40 small arms, 15 pistols and more than 2,000 bullets in clashes with special forces. The Russian satellite news agency said on the 8th that Atambayev said that the country’s powerful department once again launched an attack on the same day and successfully rushed into the residence of the former president. Atambayev’s colleague Slesarev said that the former president planned to defend himself in the court.

On the 8th, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, Gennbekov, hosted a meeting to discuss the arrest. At a later press conference, he criticized the former president for confronting the national security forces and blatantly violating the national constitution. Okinbayev, chairman of the National Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic, said that due to the intensification of the domestic situation, he is ready to resign. “Because I am at fault, I should use all 3,500 fighters directly. This will not be the result.”

Attanbayev served as President of the United States from 2011 to 2017. After leaving office, he was accused of corruption and deprived of immunity. However, he believes that these allegations are for political purposes. Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has summoned Atambayev to testify three times in a row, but they have all been rejected. According to the relevant laws of the Kyrgyz Republic, if it is not called 3 times in a row, it can be compulsory. Russia’s “Kommersant” quoted experts’ comments as saying that the main reason for the government’s criminal proceedings against Atambayev was that he was preparing to hold an opposition rally in Bishkek on September 3. His supporters said they are ready to launch an action to overthrow the current government. Experts say that the escalation of the conflict between the former president of the country and the current president may lead to a sharp deterioration of the situation in the entire country.

Russia’s “News” reported that the Russian Foreign Ministry said on the 8th that Moscow believes that the arrest of the incident is Kyrgyzstan’s internal affairs, and Russia hopes that all parties in the country will show a sense of reason and responsibility. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said on the 8th that as a friendly neighbor and a comprehensive strategic partner, China sincerely hopes that Kyrgyzstan will maintain a stable situation and believes that the Kyrgyz people are fully capable and wise to build their own country. On the afternoon of the 8th local time, Kazakh President Tokayev called with Genbebekov. Tokayev expressed the hope that the brother countries will maintain peace.
